M-1 Medieval Is The Future

Thoughts on the greatest new promotion in combat sports: M-1 Medieval

M-1 Medieval

MMA is a dying sport. All the top guys are on drugs and sooner or later there’s going to be a death in the cage because PEDs are weapons of mass destruction.

It’s time to find a new combat sport to fall in love with. The time is now to embrace M-1 Medieval.

The first Medieval battle took place at M-1 Challenge 50 and was met with rave reviews. Sergei Ukolov defeated Michael Ivey in a historic contest. Both men wore their suits of armor and swung their swords with pride, knowing that they were taking part in something special. They have looked like figures of the past, but they were competing in the future. Ukolov ended up topping Ivey by decision, but the result didn’t matter. Everyone won when this fight was over.

There have been three more Medieval battles since that time, each of them producing more action as fighters develop strategies and become more versed in the sport. Now that M-1 Medieval is official, the best has yet to come.

Some might laugh at the notion of M-1 Medieval, and I understand the skepticism. M-1 doesn’t exactly have the best track record in the world when it comes to how they promote and run things. But they’ve been promoting the wrong sport. They were in the MMA business and they were going about it the wrong way. They were trying to promote a clean MMA, which just doesn’t sell to audiences. Their biggest star, Fedor Emelianenko never failed a drug test. In fact, when did you hear about any M-1 fighter failing a drug test. M-1 was trying to run a clean operation and fans rejected it because clean fighters just aren’t good fighters.

So M-1 decided to think outside the box. They, like Ronda Rousey, looked at PEDs like weapons and they didn’t want their fighters taking a bunch of drugs that can be harmful to their bodies. So they decided to introduce real weapons to the battle in a safe environment. They decided to introduce M-1 Medieval.

Medieval Times

M-1 Medieval has a 0% injury rate, which currently makes it the safest sport in the world. People will look at the swords and armor and think it’s a very dangerous sport, but I can tell you from first hand knowledge that it’s not. Not only have I been to Medieval Times in Myrtle Beach on more than one occasion, I have been part of the show. That’s right, I was brought down to the arena where I competed against the knights in a heated battle. AND I WAS ONLY SIX YEARS OLD! I suffered no injuries and had a fantastic time despite being a young child with no training going against grown professionals.

You know why Game of Thrones is so popular? It’s not because there are 500 characters that no can keep track of. It’s because they fight like men, with swords and armor. There are no takedowns and choke holds. Just good ol’ fashion sword swinging. All the best movies feature sword fights with so variation of a sword. Lord of The Rings, Harry Potter, The Matrix, Star Wars, Kill Bill, and of course, Highlander. All had sword fights, all highly talked about movies. Except for The Fast & The Furious and Expendables movies, there are no good movies with MMA fights. And let’s be honest, those two franchises don’t hold a candle to the movies with sword fights.

It’s going to take awhile for M-1 Medieval to catch on. Like every sport in its infant stage, they will be forced to use inferior athletes who are just looking for a thrill and a paycheck. But once all the best combat athletes in the world realize that M-1 Medieval is where the real fighting is at, it’s going to consistently do millions of buys on PPV.

Let’s not pretend that this is going to stop with just two men in armor and with swords and shields either. Remember, M-1 is revolutionary company with forward thinkers. They will continue to expand M-1 Medieval. It’s very possible that we could see lions around the caged ring in the near future. It’s also possible that, instead of titles, combatants could be fighting for a fine young lass and their hand in marriage.

This started as a one-off fight in the middle of a MMA event that no one was watching. Now it’s a full-fledged organization ready to take the combat sports world by storm. This is the start of something beautiful, something that you’ll want to be a part of.

This isn’t a sport with fancy stats or juiced athletes or complicated rules. This is a sport for real men in real fights with real stakes. THIS IS M-1 MEDIEVAL!!!!!!
